Ruth Bachner
geb. 1930, USA“I was born in Vienna and fled illegally to Belgium in January 1939 to escape the horrors of the Nazis. In May 1940 the Germans occupied Belgium and two years later we had to go into hiding. Due to the kindness of a Catholic priest, I was placed in a convent, my brother in an orphanage and my parents on an estate and worked as domestics. Because some good people who had a heart of gold gave us shelter I shall never forget them. I am here to tell my story only because some righteous gentiles jeopardized their lives to give me and my family shelter.
I shall never forget them. ”
